Beta of High Capacity Memory Card Driver for Palm Handhelds Now Available

The third-party project to add support for high-capacity memory cards to Palm OS-based handhelds has reached a milestone: a beta version has been released to the public.

This driver will bring support for SDHC cards to a variety of traditional handhelds. These devices currently support up to 1 GB or in some cases 2 GB memory cards, but this driver will allow them to access 32 GB SDHC cards.

Palm itself has shown no interest in developing this software, but PalmPowerUps has taken on the job.

As with all betas, this driver is still in development. It's available as a limited-time trial, or those who want to use it for longer can buy it for $35. This is actually higher than the price for the final version -- which will sell for $20 -- but the extra cost is there to pay for the extra support that will likely be required to successfully use the beta.

What Handhelds Are Supported?

Currently, the beta will run on the:
* Palm TX
* LifeDrive
* Tungsten T5
* Tungsten E2
* Zire 72
* Zire 31

The following devices should be supported soon:
* Tungsten E
* Tungsten C
* Tapwave Zodiac
* Tungsten T3

Extensive instructions for downloading, installing, and purchasing the beta can be found on the blog dedicated to this software. (http://palmsdhc.blogspot.com/2008/07/beta-available-summary.html)
